“Metsovo” name is mentioned for the first time in 1380 AD. The documents speak of a small shepherds' settlement, built in a prosperous geographical location. From November to May, the nomadic men of Metsovo moved with their herds to the lowland pastures of Trikala or Ioannina. This choice was largely determined by the tough climate: heavy snowfall in the mountains in winter, and intense heat in the plains during summer.
