“Spathoto, a fabric that celebrates tradition”
A young girl in Soufli is lost in an endless wave of cocoons. She is working hard, but enjoys every moment of it. The process she has to follow, a standard one, is certainly not simple. She knows well that the silk she is producing shall grace anyone who gets to wear it. It is part of her heritage and she follows the steps of many generations before her. Silk has always been a cherished, stylish fabric for women and men alike, in the Greek and international markets. The year is 1920. A century later, local entrepreneurs seek an opportunity to become part of this ancient tradition and contribute, in their own way, to the production of local embroideries and silk items for numerous occasions.
Silk production is a significant element of the local history in Soufli. Spathoto, our signature silk fabric at Zeus+Dione, represents tradition and offers a stunning look and an amazing feel to everyone who wears it. The complexity of the production is evident even at a first glance. The fabric’s texture, its beauty, as well as the special pattern with lines that remind us of swords (“spathi” in Greek, hence the name) offer those who wear it a rare privilege: the feeling of becoming part of an ancient practice. The core fabric remains the same, despite the changes that have taken place in the course of the centuries.

In the silk industry, nature and fashion are paired uniquely. From the initial cocoons and bombix mori to the weaver, the traditional “argaleios,” (loom) everyone and everything work with the same passion and vision: to create a high-quality fabric that will make the consumer feel precious and unique.
Soufli is known to honor tradition and combine it with the changing needs of each generation. Its staple “Spathoto” is a fabric that celebrates history and culture, incorporating in its production and uses numerous facets of local history - the events, the places and the people of this small eastern Greek town.
Tradition is a significant component of our culture. A link to the past that offers guidance for our steps ahead, individually and collectively. Zeus+Dione honors this glorious combination and offers a fresh gaze to the paths of our past.
