Summer in Hydra SS17

Hydra is a small Greek island in the Aegean sea. The only town, that carries the same name as the island, is built in the shape of an amphitheater on a slope overlooking the endless blue sea. Traditional stone mansions, narrow cobblestoned streets, secluded squares and the absence of transportation apart from donkeys, are some of the characteristics of the distinctive atmosphere of history that are still alive in the island today.

Despite being a small island, Hydra has an immense history rooted in flourishing naval and commercial activity. The people of the island contributed significantly to the 1821 War of Independence waged against the Ottoman Empire.

Hydra has been an important cultural center, attracting famous Greek artists such as Gikas along with literary figures like Seferis, Elitis, Eggonopoulos and many more.
