Origins of the Art

Zeus+Dione was born with the vision to create a truly authentic brand
composed of locally sourced materials with exceptional craftsmanship at its core.  

Entering a severe economic depression some years ago, Greek manufacturers were forced to shut down, 
local industries were declining and traditional machinery was subsequently replaced with modern technology. 
In an effort to revive age-old craftsmanship on the brink of extinction, 
co­founders Mareva Grabowski and Dimitra Kolotouras traveled to remote areas of Greece,
passionately driven by the vision to turn crisis into opportunity. 
This is when they unearthed the once flourishing textile industry in Soufli; 
Sericulture, the ancient art of silkworm rearing for the production of silk. 
With the promise of preserving the best interests of the locals and region, the people of Soufli embarked on our journey
and became the heart of our vision.  
 
Contributing to the craft and traditional know-how, modern sericulture methods and materials were implemented in Soufli to produce even better silk cocoons. 
More so, local mulberry trees had to be nurtured in order to provide the best quality food for the silkworms. 
The long-forgotten factory was steadily nourished back to health
and is now producing the highest quality silk in the region. 
 
Beyond our origins of fine silk craftsmanship, we are devoted to working with handpicked artisans,
all over Greece to redefine their conventional craft into innovative yet classic designs with a contemporary edge.
